Solution 1. Edit the contents of the QBPOS Shell folder

  • End QBPOSShell task
    • Press the CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to open the Task Manager.
    • Navigate to the Processes tab and select the QBPOS Shell process from the list.
    • Click on End Task.
  • Show hidden folders
    • Open the Windows Explorer by pressing Windows + E keys.
    • Open the View tab, then mark the Hidden items checkbox.
    • Click on OK.
  • Rename the QBPOS Shell folder
    • Open the Windows Explorer by pressing Windows + E keys.
    • Navigate to C:\Users\{User logged on}\AppData\Local\Intuit folder.
    • Open the (QBPOSshell.exe_URL…) folder that has the latest modified date.
    • Right-click on user.config file and select Rename from the drop-down options.
    • Change the file name to “user.configold”.
    • Close the current window and run QuickBooks POS again.

  • Create a local user account
    • From the Start menu of your system, choose Settings.
    • Go to Accounts and then click on Family & other users (Other users).
    • Click on Add someone else to this PC.
    • Click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
    • Click on Add a user without a Microsoft account from the next page.
    • Provide a username and password, then click on Next.
  • Change the local user account to admin
    • From the Start menu of your system, choose Settings.
    • Go to Accounts and then click on Family & other users (Other users).
    • Click on the username you just created and then select Change account type.
    • From the Account type drop-down, click on Administrator and then click on OK.
    • Sign in as admin.
  • Open QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.
